San Francisco’s Fort Mason Community Garden is one of the city’s largest and greatest…with a notoriously long waiting list.

A non-profit organization in partnership with the National Park Service, this terraced community garden has about 125 plots in operation and boasts a wide array of plants, from lemon trees to artichokes and from pumpkin patches to rose beds.

Sited in Fort Mason, a former U.S. Army post located atop a hill in northern San Francisco, this community garden also has beautiful views out towards the San Francisco sky line. Taking a walk up the terraced, blooming gardens, and the community garden turns into a quiet, sunny retreat from city life.
