The California Zephyr: Trip Recap

Origin City: Chicago, IL | Destination City: Emeryville, CA | Track Length: 2,438 mi | Duration of Trip: 52 hours
Dates Traveled: 10.31.12 – 11.02.12

I’m in California (yes!).

Amtrak’s California Zephyr train ride was an amazing trip. It’s an unforgettable and scenic train ride, where truly, the journey is an experience in itself.

The California Zephyr travels a length of 2,438 miles over its course of 52 hours and passes through seven different states: Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California. This route is ranked as one of Amtrak’s most popular and most scenic routes, given that it traverses three different mountain ranges, from the Rockies to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Due to Hurricane Sandy holding back people out east, however, the number of passengers on the train during the time that I went was much lighter than average.

I was blessed by great weather, gaped at beautiful landscapes, and met some wonderful people from Pat, the artistic retired schoolteacher with a passion for knitting to the Amtrak crew of Samir (Jason Segel), John and Kevin. I could have stayed on for longer.

I’ve written a more detailed recap of my trip over on Landscape Forms’ blog InSite, so I’ll use the rest of this post to display some (there were lots) of the photographs taken on the trip.
