The California Zephyr is one of Amtrak’s most scenic long passenger train routes and has been running since 1983. A westbound journey that starts in Chicago, IL and ends 2,438 miles away in Emeryville, CA (in the San Francisco bay area), this train traverses some of the country’s most spectacular landscapes, from the Great Plains of the midwest to the Donner Pass in the Sierra Mountains.
And so as to usher in the month of November as well as the third month of my travels (my second month mark coincided with my birthday just a few days ago), I’m departing today on the California Zephyr. From start to finish, this train ride will take approximately two-and-a-half days. I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures and upload them when I get the chance, but until then, I’ll be back in November in sunny (foggy?) San Francisco!
